About This Artwork

The inspiration for all three pieces stems from my Armenian culture and religion as well as the Buddhist Mandala as a ritualistic and spiritual symbol. Although Armenian Apostolic Christianity and Tibetan Buddhism differ in various ways, I have found common ground in the deep spirituality of each religion. The Buddhist Mandala is not only a spiritual symbol, but also a prayer/meditation tool that has influenced the form in which my work has taken on. The motifs in all three pieces are inspired by designs seen in ancient Armenian architecture, Khachkars, traditional Armenian costume, and religious textiles.

  • About Lenna Keshishian

Lenna is an artist who studied Visual Studies at the Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. She graduated with her BA in December 2016. Born and raised in Rockland County, NY, she began her artistic exploration at the Art and Design Studio of Rockland. Here, she learned traditional drawing and painting practices as a foundation of her skills. Working as an assistant art teacher at this studio throughout high school gave Lenna confidence in her abilities as an artist. Going on to study fine arts in college, Lenna explored and experimented with various mediums. From this exploration, she has developed a passion for printmaking and textile design. Her most recent work is inspired by her heritage as an American Armenian and her spiritual experiences growing up in the Armenian church. In the Fall of 2020 Lenna returned to school to obtain her MFA in textiles at Parsons School of Design.
