About this lot
The inspiration for all three pieces stems from my Armenian culture and religion as well as the Buddhist Mandala as a ritualistic and spiritual symbol. Although Armenian Apostolic Christianity and Tibetan Buddhism differ in various ways, I have found common ground in the deep spirituality of each religion. The Buddhist Mandala is not only a spiritual symbol, but also a prayer/meditation tool that has influenced the form in which my work has taken on. The motifs in all three pieces are inspired by designs seen in ancient Armenian architecture, Khachkars, traditional Armenian costume, and religious textiles.
