Rugs of Lost Kingdoms
Artscoops is delighted to announce a solo online and live exhibition showcasing the work of the Lebanese artist Jihad Abousleiman, titled ‘Rugs of Lost Kingdoms’.
Running from February 1 to February 8, at Artscoops space in Beirut, and as its name suggests, the show reveals the artist’s fascination with tapestry as an art form and the way in which it inspires his work process.
The paintings featured also highlight Abousleiman’s passion for the region’s natural world in times gone by, with flora and fauna brought to life through the use of vibrant colours and dynamic, thickly etched textures.
Birds in flight across Baku, geometric in shape, are captured in a chequered sky, while animals stand peacefully, silhouetted against a backdrop of multi-hued hills, trees and fields whose colours beautifully reflect seasonal changes and differing times of day, from sunrise to sundown.
A graduate of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Abousleiman also furthered his studies at the University of Amsterdam and remains based in the Netherlands’ capital city today, where he works as a painter and writer.
