Johanne Allard

Nearly every civilisation in the world has had some history with embroidery. In the Levant, it was one of the skills marking a girl’s path into womanhood and a means to convey social standing.

Johanne Allard is a mixed media artist with a core focus on embroidery as source of storytelling and cultural representation. Her work takes a critical view of social, political, and cultural issues related to the Levant and Arab region, where Allard has been living for the past 18 years.
