Born in Yerevan in 1983, Rafael Megall started to paint at the young age of 9. Graduate of the Yerevan State Academy of Fine Arts (1998-2004), Megall is, since 2008, a member of the Union of Artists of the Republic of Armenia. Since 2010, Megall lives and works between Armenia and the USA.
From 1995 onwards, Megall has had numerous individual and group exhibitions, both in Armenia and abroad. Most notably, Megall participated at the 57th Venice Biennale for the Armenian Pavilion. His group exhibitions include the Florence Biennale (2009, 2013) for which he received The Lorenzo il Magnifica Award, the 95th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide at the National Gallery of Yerevan (2010), the Dublin Biennale (2014) and the ""the new frontier of painting"" at the Palazzo delle Stelline in Milan (2018), amongst others. His achievements include, in 2012, the Gold Medal of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia for his services and achievement. In 2013, the President of Armenia gave him the honorary title of Honored Artist of the Republic of Armenia. In 2014, he was granted the ""Arshile Gorky"" honorable Medal of Republic of Armenia.
