About this artwork
Hues of green contrasting sharply with each other and fill rectangular vertical shapes that are well and sharply delineated. Turquoise, teal, green, and light green dominate the canvas, complemented by smaller horizontal strokes of earthy tones on the right. This work belongs to a series entitled “Harmonic Composition,” where Ribal draws a parallel between visual art and classical music. The strokes on the canvas evoke the structure of a musical composition— free from time and place, not evoking anything referential, and making the viewer wonder, a hallmark approach of Abstract Expressionism. For Ribal, painting is an act of incarnating the subconscious with colours and shapes, much like a musician who brings a score to life.
