Christian Zahr
Follow ArtistChristian Zahr based in Beirut, graduated in 2003 from Alba ( Academie Libanaise des Beaux Arts) and started his own practice as an architect, landscape designer and lately objects designer. Moving between these scales allows him to blur the boundaries between these different realms with an obsession to create a new language.
During his career he realized many architectural and landscaping projects, won distinguished prizes in several local competitions, and participated in many exhibitions. Interested in the changing urban landscape of Beirut he has also done some critical public interventions.
As a Designer, his philosophy stems from his interest in the process of carving, the poetry reflected by ancient ruins, the anthropological dimension of troglodytes, the brutalism movement in architecture, and the informal and vernacular architectural practices. In this respect objects he designs can also be interpreted as small architecture. His work is an experimentation on the technique, the materiality and the forms. He is interested to create techniques as much as creating forms.
The details, the textures and the forms are the result of these techniques. The gesture creates the language, it generates a poetic dialogue between the hidden and the revealed, the finished an non-finished, the rough and the fragile, the masculine and the feminine, the curves and the well shaped...
