Eddie Ruscha
Follow ArtistBorn in Los Angeles, CA in 1968, Eddie Ruscha currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
Ruscha is a multi-disciplinary artist known for his works on paper, airbrushed paintings on canvas, and experimental music releases (aliases E Ruscha V and Secret Circuit). Interested in blurring the lines between commercial and fine art, Ruscha’s work is heavily informed by the surrealist and dada art movements, as well as psychedelia, and album, comic, and poster art. Ruscha’s art objects, musical arrangements, and live performances explore the intersection of refinement and experimentation, of precision and improvisation.
"My work is about creating an intangible connection with the viewer. The work can be meditative, methodical, or something else entirely. 2020 has been a very intense year, with a lot of confusion and pain. It’s my goal to transport the viewer to an oasis of their own creation, one born and tucked safely away in their own mind. I want my work to inspire creativity and to allow people to heal and to let go of the things that become oppressive to one’s well being if just for a moment.
The pointillism of my drawing can be likened to white noise. It can flow where it will and decide when to form or or fall apart. It can become what you want it to be, consciously or unconsciously. The piece is experienced differently based on the viewer’s own lived experiences. There is no right or wrong way to interpret the work, no hierarchy of meaning or meaninglessness, and in this way the work, at least to myself, is optimistic and more importantly, human."
