Artist Statement:
Tania has been working as a ceramic artist for more than 10 years. Her work at once reflects the visceral relationship she has with the natural landscape, born from her connection to the mountains and colors of her native Lebanon. Upon leaving Beirut, Tania moved to Paris, where she studied and gained a PHD in Anthropology. This intellectual exploration provides the backbone to the manual expression of working with ceramics. Tania then left Paris, and moved to Asia. She first lived in China before staying in Singapore for more than 10 years. It is there that she was introduced to pottery by Singaporean master potters.
Tania soon realized that pottery was giving her the opportunity to express her inclination towards nature and more specifically the mineral world.
She then sought to create ‘organic’ pieces where folds and tears reflect both the fragility and the strength found in nature.
In 2017, Tania left Asia to return to her native Lebanon, reconnecting with the environment that had been an idealized source of inspiration during her years overseas.
