Nassim Nasr
Follow ArtistNassim Nasr is a self-taught Lebanese artist who was born in the North of the country. He began painting as a teenager, encouraged to do so by his artistic mother and older sister. The family left Lebanon due to the difficult situation there, moving to Kuwait and the UK. Nasr graduated with a degree in Business Management in 1995, before taking the decision to move to the UAE, where he carved out a career in advertising in Dubai. However, today he is fully focused on painting.
Nasr is known for pioneering a practice and philosophy that he describes as ‘expressive colour minimalism’ - a unique blend of diverse art styles combining abstract expressionism, colour field and minimalism that he cultivated, having previously spent time copying the great artists.
“It’s my unique response to the age-old quest of conveying depth with simplicity,” he has said when describing his practice.
In his approach, Nasr takes the principles of these styles and channels them into his own, highly individual way of working. The emotional intensity of abstract expressionism is filtered into each brushstroke, while colour is elevated to the role of emotional tool, providing much more than just a visual aspect. Simultaneously, Nasr acknowledges the principles of minimalism by ensuring each element plays a specific role on his canvases.
Nasr describes his approach as a reflection on the delicate balance between fundamental societal constructs and the potential chaos that could disrupt this order. He explores diverse, often opposing themes and directions with vigour and clarity, in works that present diverse textures.
“In my work, I aim to create a balance between vibrancy and void, between the effusiveness of colour and the calm of empty space. It’s a dialogue, a dance a journey that invites viewers to explore their own emotional landscapes while appreciating the nuanced simplicity I strive to present,” he explains.
Nasr’s work can be found in the collections of several corporations and private collectors. He has also donated pieces to schools and charitable causes.
His work was showcased in a solo exhibition recently, titled ‘The Language of Color’, held at DiarBid Art House, Dubai in 2024/2025.
He has also taken part in several other exhibitions, including, most recently: ‘Freedom: Celebrating Peace and Harmony’, Hayat Arts Group, at Art of Living Mall, Dubai (2024).
Nasr’s work has also featured in various publications that include Slimimagazine, Magzoid and World Art Dubai.
