Yasser Nabaiel is an award-winning Egyptian painter and sculptor who was born in Kafr El-Sheikh, Cairo and currently lives and works in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Academic Excellence: Nabaiel's Formative Years
He studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Helwan University, Cairo, where he gained a BA in Oil Painting with High Honours (1994) and an MFA in Oil Painting and Drawing (1999). Nabaiel chose the subject ‘Beliefs and Reality in Pharaonic and Soviet Paintings’ as the subject for his thesis.
Baconian Influences: Exploring the Human Psyche Through Art
Yasser Nabaiel’s drawings and paintings have been described as Baconian in style, in part due to the way he explores the human psyche through his subjects, often set in surreal surroundings.
His art makes uncomfortable viewing, with psychological torment lying at its core, manifested through his protagonists.
Nabaiel on Human Confinement and Expression
Giving an insight into his complex, multi-layered work in an interview, the artist reflected: “We are confined, imprisoned and suffocating from innumerable chains."

Yasser Nabaiel’s work features in several prestigious collections and has been exhibited extensively from the 1990s onwards, in solo shows and collectives across Europe, the MENA region and the US.
Recent solo exhibitions include ‘A Shooting Star’, held at Yassin Art Gallery, Cairo (2024). Others include exhibitions at: DémART Galerie, Lausanne and Liwan Gallery, Cairo (2023); Montreux Art Gallery, Montreux (2022).
Collaborative Ventures: ‘The Forbidden’ with Weaam El Masry
Nabaiel also participated in a high-profile duo exhibition with the award-winning Egyptian artist Weaam El Masry, titled ‘The Forbidden’, at Art Talks Gallery, Cairo in 2016.
Group Exhibitions: A Collective Artistic Expression
In addition, Nabaiel’s work has appeared in several group exhibitions, most recently: a show at the Audrey Hepburn Pavilion, Tolochenaz, Switzerland (2022); ‘Projektraum M54’, Basel (2015).
Academia and Recognition: Nabaiel's Contributions and Honors
Nabaiel has worked extensively in academia, lecturing at the Russian Cultural Center, and Helwan University Cairo. He is the recipient of several accolades, including the ‘Ezz El Din Hammouda’ award.
