Mohamed Muhraddin
Follow ArtistMohammed Muhraddin studied painting at the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad from 1956 to 1959, and later travelled to Poland where he received a degree in fine art from the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts in 1966. He was a founding member of the New Vision Group of 1969.
Muhraddin is known for his mixed-media compositions; he uses materials such as wood, gypsum and sand. He has participated in exhibitions including the graphic show held at Taleh Hall, Baghdad, in 1967 and the Al-Wasiti Festival.
In 1993 he was granted the Honorary Award at the Sixth Asian Art Biennale, held in Bangladesh; further awards include the Honorary Prize, International Poster Exhibition, Baghdad, 1986, and First Prize, Second International Festival, 1988. More recent group exhibitions include Regard sur l’artcontemporain Arabe, Institut du monde Arabe, Paris; Word into Art, British Museum, London, 2006; and Modernism and Iraq, Wallach Art Gallery, Columbia University, New York, 2009. His work is held in collections including the Museum of Modern Art, Baghdad and Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts, Amman.
Three large murals of Muhraddin are displayed at: Baghdad Airport, Basra Airport, and the Festival Square in Baghdad.
