Gastineau Massamba was born in 1973 in Poto-Poto, Brazzaville, Republic of Congo and currently works and resides in both his home country and France. His youth was spent surrounded by the conflict that shattered his homeland and the scars and traces of this remain to be seen in his work today. He uses his creativity to channel and address these issues and has worked in numerous media over his career. Currently he is exploring textile and mark-making through cuts, sutres and threads to speak of wounding, healing and the ramifications of physical damage.
Massamba’s work has been widely exhibited in Republic of Congo and internationally, having held exhibitions in Brazil, France, Morocco, Senegal and Spain.
