Statement

Taher Jaou is orginaly an engineer and also worked in Investment Banking in Paris. . Due to his visceral need to be express himself in a different way, he start to study acting in Paris then in Los Angeles. After a short carrier as an actor in Paris,  he decided to move to Berlin in 2014 and decide to put all his energy into painting. Painting is for Taher the perfect and unexpected way to explore his passion for acting, mathematics and manual activities. 

In Taher’s compostions we can find influences spanning from american old cartoons, the Abstract Expressionism mouvement, the African Tribes Arts and also the German expressionim movement in the 20. Jaoui’ s work joins together painting and drawing, between abstraction and representation. Through a personal language in his compositions, he aims to stimulate a the viewer’s feelings and imagination and let him build his own interpretation of the picture. His often compose with semi-figurative elements, such as heads, legs, eyes or hands. He combines an aggressive use of color and texture with various combinations of oil, enamel, spray paint and charcoal on canvas.
