Everything seems different than before, as if the morphology of things and objects had changed and become jelly-like. At this point we can manipulate and form them, even change them”, writes artist Iman Hasbani about her work.
Born in Soueida (1979), Iman Hasbani graduated with a BA and MA from the Fine Arts Faculty at Damascus University. Through various media such as video, installation, performance and drawing, Hasbani explores the themes of memory, dreams, transience and traces. Her work mixes reality and fiction together to create poetic narratives, which can often be surreal.
Iman Hasbani is the recipient of numerous awards, both inside and outside Syria, including the first prize for small works at the Canada Biennial in 2008. She has participated in exhibitions in Syria, Jordan, Denmark, France, Canada, Italy, Egypt, Qatar, the UAE, Lebanon and Germany and has work in numerous public and private collections in the Middle East and Europe.
