Follow ArtistMaryam Eisler is an Iranian-born artist based in London who is best known for her work as a photographer, writer, and book editor.
Born in Tehran, she attended Wellesley College, Massachusetts, where she gained a BA in Political Science, and Columbia University, following which she worked in consumer marketing for key brands in both London and New York.
Eisler’s subject in her photographic work is a celebration of the female form, often silhouetted and depicted in delicate black and white against stark backgrounds with nature at their heart, illuminated through clever contrasts of dark, light, and shadow.
Other projects reveal an unexpected shift into brilliant colors, like the ‘Once upon a Turquoise Past’ project, created during the pandemic, which celebrates the bold and beautiful blue so prevalent in Persian architecture and its azure-like skies.
Eisler’s work has been featured in several shows, including solo exhibitions held at Tristan Hoare Gallery, London and Harper’s, East Hampton, New York, among others, as well as in group events. She has also produced and edited a number of books showcasing both her writing and photographs. Eisler is a chief contributing editor for LUX magazine, from the Condé Nast stable, and has had her work featured in a range of high-profile publications, including Vanity Fair, Harper’s Bazaar Interiors, and Vogue Arabia. An art collector and patron of the arts, she has held a number of executive editorial roles and serves on key art-related advisory boards and councils.
