Born in Paris, Diana Bou Salman is a multidisciplinary artist and architect with a Master’s degree in Architecture. Intertwining Architecture, Imagery, and Poetic Narratives
Bou Salman’s work intertwines the poetic and the spatial, blending imagery and architecture to craft narratives that explore themes of belonging and the intimacy of space. Through video installations and sculptural works, she reimagines spaces, transforming everyday objects and settings into evocative artistic expressions. Her projects often draw from diverse production techniques to bring her visions to life, resulting in creations that balance the tactile and the conceptual.
Exploration of Dwelling, Memory, and Cultural Belonging
Bou Salman’s exploration of ‘dwelling’ as a poetic and existential concept has been a recurring theme in her practice, evolving into profound interpretations of identity, heritage and memory.
Key Exhibitions: From MACAM in Aalita to Galerie Janine Rubeiz
Her recent exhibitions include ‘Duo Up!’ at MACAM in Aalita, Lebanon (2023), where she explored the concept of dwelling alongside artist Anthony El Khoury through sculptures, videos and paintings that reinterpreted the living space, from the intimacy of a bedroom to urban and geographical scales.
For ‘Encounters 2023’ at Galerie Janine Rubeiz in Beirut (2023), she presented ‘Collectibles’, a series of 25 ceramics that examined the relationship between objects, identity and heritage. Using French clay mixed with Lebanese soil and sand, the works evoked memories of Lebanon and transformed mundane objects into totemic artifacts symbolising displacement and belonging.
In ‘Moi Cristal’ at the Centre d’Art Contemporain de Lacoux, France (2022), a collective exhibition exploring transparency, Bou Salman’s contribution included a filmed ballet of gazes and a series of ceramics imagining the interior universe of the eye, delving into the symbolic and material facets of vision.
ARC Paris Residency and Future Artistic Pursuits
In 2024, Bou Salman joined ARC Paris as a resident artist, continuing to expand her artistic explorations.
