Arzu Akgün

Contemporary Turkish artist Arzu Akgün practices woodblock printing to create figures and portraits that seem to come alive straight out of the painting surface. The artist has mastered textures on wood and her works bring to light consumer culture and its massive impact on today’s society in Turkey and elsewhere. Her exquisite paintings establish a subtle commentary on the negative effects of consumerism, influencers and the “commoditizing” of multiple aspects of our daily lives. In her charming, yet powerful compositions, Akgün emphasises the urge to attain a certain aesthetic and standard, never more so accurate today.
The present work is a prime example of a lady with excessive make-up, her head topped with a sophisticated hair bun, gazing cheekily to the left. 

Internationally acclaimed, the artist has been sold successfully in major auction houses including at Christie's, Dubai and her works have been exhibited widely from Dubai to Istanbul and beyond.
