Zoha Abdulsater
Follow ArtistZoha Abdulsater was born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon, the city of extremities. She holds a master’s degree in comparative literature. Her MA thesis was an interdisciplinary approach to a comparative study between Arabic novels and the paintings of Salvador Dali, where she applied theories of psychoanalysis to dig deeper into the two art mediums: words and images.
Abdulsater’s work has formed part of several photography exhibitions in Lebanon and the United States. She taught English Literature at the Lebanese American University (LAU) for six years and worked on several critical writings, one of which was published in Intellect, The International Journal of Francophone Studies. Recently, Abdulsater had her work displayed in an exhibition at the Peoria Riverfront Museum where five of her paintings were sold at auction in support of LAU. In her paintings, Abdulsater plays with speech—sometimes she hides a statement and sometimes she says it bluntly. In both ways she is portraying human reality with a tweak of beauty.
