About Mohamed Al Kaissi

Mohammad Kaissi was born in 1931. A watercolor artist in the service of perspective, with an infallible touch, when it comes to lightening colors, Mohammad Kaissi manages to transcribe the joy of the mountains through his colors. Never overloaded, never restricted in his memorial scripture of the hillsides, this landscape artist is a master of contour, of visual space, of design; he faithfully records what his receptive senses dictate as if his eye were to become palette and brush at the same time. If on occasions he tends to rhapsodize - and this is what makes the charm of his pictorial poetry - it is in the lyrical distribution of color touches that become even more rosy pink when set beside the green, more violet mauve when mixed with wild green. Precisely because, in the eyes of a painter-poet such as Mohammad Kaissi, there is no law regulating the discipline of the heart as long as the rhythm of tone is given the most finely-balanced of proportion. This is perhaps the reason why his water-colors have much in common with oil-painting in their sparkle, their powerful structure, the luminosity and mellow bloom of the whole resulting from a cleanness even of mixed colors.

Both in his watercolors, his inks, and his oils, Mohammad Kaissi is moving towards a sculpting of the canvas, for every line and touch, each tone holds within itself its own outline, imposing this distance as much on the neighboring lines and hues as on the eye of the observer.
