About Michelle Maluf
Michelle Maluf is a Columbian Lebanese artist. She started painting from a young age, standing out for her creativity and unusual sense of mediums. She did her studies in Fine Arts and Graphic Design in Boston, USA and worked as an Art Director in New York, and Lebanon for a dominant Advertising Agency.
Lacking motivation and challenges in this field, she pursued her passion for weaving after visiting the Wayuu Tribe in Columbia where her motivation grew after experiencing the beauty and dedication of their crafts.
Inspired by her cultural heritage, her tapestries are created using ancestral techniques with contemporary elements. Staying true to the materials themselves, she lets the nature of the materials guide her, creating her unique style.
Life in Lebanon has been a huge inspiration for Michelle. The contrast of religions, culture, and landscapes are strong, but yet, they combine to form beautiful diversity. Just like her tapestries, the vast contrast of materials combine, to form a harmonious design.
Exhibited at Cheriff Tabet Gallery on December 2019.
