About This Artist
Akil Ahmad was born in Syria in 1988. His fascination for Arabic calligraphy began at a very young age. A graduate from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Aleppo, he currently lives in Beirut, Lebanon. Akil’s main inspiration comes from the Arabic musical entitled ‘Maqams’, which translates to a place or a position one can have. Grounded from the audio tapes, an optical pattern is created. During his process, Akil spends his time researching about ink compositions and natural paper manufacturing. In 2015, he was awarded the Al-Burda Prize in Dubai.
