A young Artist, Lea Skayem shares her experience of the world through her eyes and eventually with the camera. She is best known for her black and white series of nude auto portraits through which she shows an experimentation and investigation in body and space relationships.
Creating an explicit adaptation of how she perceives herself, she makes the spectator part of her images. Through her photographs, she expresses a struggle in female sexuality. Showing herself in intimate places and private times, Lea puts herself in a vulnerable position to reveal unspoken adversity. “For me, the camera has been the substitute of a man for a long time. Facing the camera only, I could truly be myself.” Through a sombre mood, Lea puts front the dilemma of living in a woman’s body in a highly conservative society.
