Born in Iran in 1966, Bahram Hanafi graduated from the Art University in Tehran with a B.A. in Art of Handcraft in 1994 and from the Tarbiat Modares University in Tehran with a M.A. in Research of Art in 1999. His thesis was based on the analytical study of renowned Iranian calligrapher Darvish Abd Al-Madjid Taleqani’s works. He currently teaches in Art institutes in Tehran. Hanafi transforms calligraphy into contemporary abstract compositions with the swirls, dots and curves going beyond their literal meaning into spiritual visually universal paintings.
