Mouneer Al Shaarani
Born in 1952 in Syria, Mouneer Al Shaarani currently lives and works in Cairo, Egypt. After having graduated in 1977 with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the Damascus University, he continued on to study under the guidance of Badawi Al-Dirany, one of Syria’s greatest calligraphers. A referential calligrapher in his own right, Al Shaarani is also a designer and a published author. He has gained international acclaim for his calligraphy, which some was used on his book covers and his personal works. His work has been acquired by many institutions such as the Reitberg Museum in Zurich, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tunisia, the Museum of Red Cross in Geneva, the Museum of Islamic Art in Malaysia, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Cairo. His works can be found in private collections in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Amman, Qatar and Bahrain.
