Reda Abdelsalam

Born in Suez in (1947), Egypt. Currently holding an academic position as a Professor of painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Cairo, Egypt. He was a member of several cultural committees as the plastic-arts committee of the Culture-Supreme Council (1996-2003) (2013-2017), Luxor international forum (2014), Board member of Cairo-Atelie for artists and Authors (1981-2000), and a Chairman of the Board of Directors (2000-2001). Dr. Abdel-Salam published five books in arts: “Contemporary Egyptian Drawing”, Dar Al-Hilal, 2002, “Pre-paintings and their relationship to Mustafa Ahmed plates”, Culture Supreme Council, “The Artist Shawki Zaghloul”, 1st edition was electronic, 2nd edition printed by the general Egyptian book organization (2015), “The Egyptian Artists, Traditional vs contemporary”, the general organization of cultural palaces (2015), “Visual Context on Ruined Walls”, plastic art electronic organization. He has done many critical studies on artists as: Mounir Canaan, Zakaria Al-Zeini, Mohammed El-Shaarawy, Rawoff Raafat ..etc . He participated in numerous committees and public contests of Youth Salon, Cairo Biennale Award creativity, the State Incentive Award, and Chairman of the Arbitration of the 17th youth salon, as well as he took part in local and international exhibitions since in 1981 till now. He traveled as an exhibitor and a companion of international exhibitions to: Yugoslavia - Macedonia - 1988, Switzerland - Basel 1987, Iraq - Baghdad 1986, 1988, Turkey - Ankara 1989, and Spain - Granada 1993, Italy - Rome 1995, Brazil - Sao Paulo 1996, Sarajevo 1999, India - New Delhi 2000, Argentina - Buenos Aires 2001, Kuwait 2004, Rome 2003, Azerbaijan - Baku 2008 -Budapest 2010. He has many artistic holdings among individuals in the Arab world, Europe and America as well as and museums such; Titograde museum, the Museum of Modern Art and many private and governmental buildings in Egypt.

Prof. Reda signed since the beginning of nineties with signature “Reda”. He is well known as a painter, however he has experience in the field of sculpture. Considerable attention is paid to express their human and aesthetic contents. People, local environment, coastal roots and reality of contemporary life brought him rich sources of creativity and gain art-elements which draw inspiration and expression of different versions. Each of his exhibitions represents special status of particular aesthetic that reflects the thought and unstable spirit; sometimes sad, cynical and sometimes humor with strong expression of color and design with his experimental and creative culture of collage .The last one reflects his tendency to diversity of different media with non-precedent mixing ; in which the elements declare his visions and feelings and conscious reverses, and make sure at the same time the approaches of the soul and the substance, the visible and unviable, unknown and known, facts of absent and vague of life, its secrecy and magic cannot be recognized except at the space of creative arts.
